Local equities market moved sideways on Tuesday, after a 3-day break due to the holiday yesterday. The PSEi closed at 3,566.23 or an advance of 7 points from last week''''s level. With all economic and corporate data out of the way for the local market, the next thing to look at is the performance of the Dow. |

The local market had a spectacular run on Thursday. Early on, trading was halted due to technical problems. But upon resuming, investors streamed in and took the opportunity to buy stocks. Second quarter GDP growth served as a fuel for the optimism today. |

The PSEi managed to gain 0.67% despite the heavy blows of the Dow''''s decline and successive incidents of crime in the country. The local index initially soared 1% before pulling back to 3,554.15 or a 24 point advance. |

Six straight days of gains came to a spectacular end today as the local stock market plunged on the back of Ayala Land''''s (ALI, down 15.25% to P14.00) huge decline. After reaching its highest level in almost three years, the PSEi experienced its largest loss since the start of June. |

Big Caps Take Limelight (August 23, 2010)
Share prices rallied today and closed at levels not seen since December of 2007. The local equities market relentlessly went up again today as investors stayed bullish despite the technically overbought state of the market. Investors and even traders have been ignoring technical indicators as projections of the macro economic and corporate earnings are been upgraded. Moreover, both investors and consumer confidence are reaching fresh highs. |
