The local equities market continued to trek higher as improving sentiments on the major bourses abroad trickled down to Philippine stocks. Some favorable economic data from abroad and locally also provided some added boost to the market. Despite the positive mood of the local market, share prices were mostly moving in a zig zag manner.

Local share prices struggled in today''''s trading but the PSEi managed to end with yet another gain. The increase of 12.37 points or 0.40% pushed the main index above 3,100 for the first time since early January. Closing at 3,107.35, the PSEi is now close to its YTD date high of 3,130. With PLDT (TEL) unchanged at P2,675.00, a host of other index issues led the way.

The market was a bit active this Monday as both blue chips and small caps grabbed investors'''' attention. Advancers outnumbered decliners 76 to 34. Most trades were for TEL and SM. On the other hand, some small caps that were actively traded were MRC and CPM.

Late selling pushed the local stock market to its biggest decline since early February. The PSEi declined today by 35.16 points or 1.15% and closed at P3,034.13. A total of 1.5 billion shares amounting to P2.6 billion changed hands today. PLDT (TEL, down 1.12% to P2,655.00), the country''''''''s largest listed company, tracked the loss of the main index despite announcing dividends yesterday.

Spotting the Buys (March 3, 2010)

The PSEi ended slightly higher as it ended 0.24% up to 3,069.29 today. Daily trading range remains short and narrow, leaving the index with little room to move. Blue chips have been quiet lately, resulting to small changes in the index''''s level. Market activity has been felt in the small caps in the past days.
